How to Register DSC in Income Tax New Portal


Whether you run a business and need to file various income tax forms like 15 CACB or tax audit report, or you’re a company and need to file your income tax return, you need to sign the forms using a digital signature certificate. By now, we all know that the Income Tax website has migrated all the data from the old portal to the new portal, but with many glitches. One of the glitches is that they failed to transfer the digital signatures from the old income tax portal because of technical and security reasons.

So if you were using and uploading forms at the old Income Tax portal, you will now have to re-register your DSC at the new income Tax portal. But don’t worry, we’re here to guide you through every step of the way.  

In this blog, we will tell you all you need to know to make a seamless transition to the new Income Tax Portal. We’ll show you how to register your DSC at the new income tax portal. We’ll talk about any errors you might encounter while registering your DSC and how to resolve them. But before we begin the tutorial, there are things you need to know.

First, you need to check that your DS is a Class two DS. Then, you need to check that the DSC is not expired. And if you need to update your user password for the DSC, we’ll tell you all about how to do it.

In order to register your DSC, you need to go to your web browser and type in the address of the new income tax portal in the URL bar, which is, and then click on login at the top right corner. Once in, you need to type in your PIN and the password that you used at the old income tax portal to log into your profile. Then, click on Continue.

This will take you to the password screen where it will ask you to confirm the secure message and update your password. You can also log in using Aadhar OTP.

Once you are logged in, it will take you to a welcome screen for your e-profile. On scrolling down, you’ll see the option to update your profile on the left side of the menu. When you click on this, you’ll find many options to update your profile. One of the options is to register your DSC. Once you arrive on the page to register the Digital Signature, it will ask you to click and download the emsigner utility. Choose where you want to download it- what location. You’ll also find a desktop shortcut. Once downloaded, run the utility.

Click on Next and then click on Install. Once the installation finishes, it will ask you to finish and then you can close the folder. Now, you’ll see the emsigner utility on the desktop. Update it if you need to.

The application is ready to start. Now, get back on the income tax portal and upload your DSC utility to the system. Then, click on “I have downloaded and installed the emsigner utility.” This should automatically pick the EPA token which you have inserted onto the computer and the certificate. And here you will need to update the eight-digit pin that is associated with your Digital Signature certificate.

When you have updated everything, click on Sign. If you get the error that the token user has to be changed, you’ll need to change it. Let’s see how to do that. Goto all the applications that are installed, and then go to EPA token. When you click on it, it will ask you to change your user pin. Here, you can mention your old user pin and then update and confirm the new pin.

Now, back to signing the utility. Click on continue, then click on Provider, select the certificate, and enter the new password. Now. Click on Sign. So if it was giving you an error earlier, it will now automatically pick it up because of the correct details. Now, your DSC is successfully registered.
